RUBÉN GALLARDO SHARES ON RADIO BALEAR THE CREATIVE PROCESS BEHIND THE SOUNDTRACK OF AMY
Mallorcan film composer and music producer Rubén Gallardo Acedo was recently interviewed on Radio Balear, where he discussed the creative process behind the original soundtrack of AMY, his latest musical project. During the conversation, he offered an in‑depth look at the sonic construction of the work, its origins, and his evolution as a composer.
The origin of the project and the director’s vision
Gallardo explained that AMY was born from a proposal by the director, who sought a musical narrative capable of sustaining the emotional tension of the story. The composer highlighted that one of the most appealing aspects was the chance to explore a new sound language for him — synthwave and the use of synthesizers he had never incorporated before.
It was an opportunity to expand my sonic palette and tell the story from a different place,” he said during the interview.
The leitmotif and building tension
A central topic of the conversation was the development of AMY’s leitmotif. Gallardo described how musical tension grows progressively through instrumentation, orchestration, and evolving textures. Time, repetition, and transformation of sonic elements were key to shaping an emotional arc aligned with the narrative.

He also emphasized the importance of teamwork, comparing his collaborators to the gears of a clock: “Every axis must fit perfectly for the clock to move and in my studio, it’s the same.”
One of the most emotional moments came when Jacobo said Rubén had “a gift,” to which the composer replied: “I don’t label myself; I let the listeners do that. I’m someone who receives inspiration and lets it flow through my music. I’m an artisan creating art.”
